Charles and Maria bought a small farm in Montier, Missouri and also had a grocery store in on the main street of Birch Tree, Mo. Charles was advised by many not to extend credit during the depression, but he couldn’t turn people down, and ended up losing the store. Times being hard Charles went to work for the railroad. Maria joined him and she cooked for the railroaders. Mary was called to Missouri from Montana to care for the children while the parents were both away working. After Charles died, Maria stayed on the farm with Art and his family, when her daughter-in-law Lena died leaving small children. Maria took care of them, when Art went to work in Mountain View, Mo. She moved also and lived with them until her death in 1955. Burial at Montier Cemetery. |

David Edwin Wade 29 Sep 1903 - 05 Mar 1991 |
David Edwin Wade was born September 29, 1903 at Monico, Wisconsin. He moved with the family to Mildred, Montana where his parents homesteaded. He attended a country school called The Bar G School. Times were hard on the homestead so David and his sister Mary went to work for a family called Christenson’s. He milked cows and did chores. This was a happy time for him as the Christenson’s were real good to him. He went to work for the Milwaukee Railroad in 1925. He married Myrtle Huxley and they had one son, William, born in 1929 in Mobridge, South Dakota. They moved to Miles City, Montana where David retired in 1963. David was a great favorite of all his nieces and nephews; he loved children and would almost burst with pride when around his son and grandsons. His son Bill was killed in a car accident in Carmichael, California 1973. This was heartbreaking to David as he also lost contact with grandsons. He loved to tease, he would always ask 'are you eating?' then tell you, if you answered yes 'so take a hammer and knock your teeth out'. He always checked pay phones for change and sometimes would come away with a handful. He was a kind, gentle, uncomplaining man. He was pronounced dead on March 5, 1991 in Coeur’d Alene, Kootenai Co ID. His final years were not pleasant ones and there will always be some question of how and when he died. Burial at Montier Cemetery. |

Baigen Jon-Charles WALKER 26 Oct 2002 - 30 Sep 2013
Paris Delane WALKUP
18 Jan 1991 - 30 Sep 2013 |
Baigen Jon-Charles Walker was born on October 26, 2002, the son of Jeff and Janell (Mayo) Walker. Baigen was in the fifth grade at MVE where his favorite subjects were science and math. Baigen's teachers could not say who his best friends were because he was kind to anyone around him and everyone felt like his best friend. That was just his precious spirit. He enjoyed chess, Greek Mythology, studying war strategies, reading alchemy and the Bible. He was always writing notes to family, especially his mama, to let them know how much he loved and appreciated them. He admired both of his brothers and sisters and enjoyed every minute he spent with them. He enjoyed practicing jujitsu with his brother, Logan. Four-wheeler rides with his mom and dad were an event Baigen always looked forward to. With his love of science and nature, Baigen was wise beyond his years. He once told a teacher that someone had asked him how he knew God was real and he commented 'just look around!'. That was Baigen's wise soul that will be treasured by all who knew him.
They departed this life together, on Sep. 30,
2013, while hiking with family in Colorado. They perished along with 3
other family members in a rockslide.
Paris Delane Walkup was born January 18, 1991 in Denver, Colorado, the son of Dennis and Janell (Mayo) Walkup. Baigen Jon-Charles Walker was born on October 26, 2002, the son of Jeff and Janell (Mayo) Walker. Paris graduated from LHS in 2009. His love of football led him to Avila to play alongside his best friend, Adam. He then received a BS in Nursing from Avila University in May, 2013. After enjoying playing college football and graduating with honors, Paris had recently obtained employment in Kansas City. He was always humble about his accomplishments and a good friend to many. Paris had a beautiful and charming spirit that made those around him smile. There were few occasions that Paris & Adam weren't together laughing and entertaining those around them. Paris loved being outside hiking, riding horses, four-wheeling, canoeing and just enjoying nature. He would often send friends pictures to share his amazing experiences, whether he was in the mountains of Colorado or on the beaches in Cancun. His friends and family can attest to the assurance Paris enjoyed life to the fullest. He was truly an amazing soul that leaves behind friends and family with beautiful memories. His spirit will continue to be an inspiration to everyone who was blessed to share his life.

DR. M.C. WALTON 31 Dec 1924 - 16 Mar 2016 |
Dr. Marion C. Walton passed into the arms of Jesus early Wednesday morning, March 16, 2016, at the age of 91 after a short illness. He had been living in Dallas, Texas with his daughter. Before moving to Texas, Dr. Walton was a well known resident in Mountain View having served the community for 49 years. Marion was born in Reynold's Station, Kentucky, on December 31, 1924. He was the firstborn of 10 children born to Percy and Blanche (Cauley) Walton. His spent his childhood in Central City, Kentucky. It was a very difficult time since money was scarce and the Depression was raging. He started working alongside his father in the coal mines at an early age. This continued throughout high school until he was drafted after his junior year. He served in the Coast Guard or 3 1/2 years until the end of WWII. Marion's vision to pursue medicine was formed during his military service, but he had no idea how it would be accomplished. God knew, however, and He led Marion to attend Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky. He studied hard and managed to finish his pre-med program in 3 years. He continued to follow his passion and entered Temple University Medical School from which he graduated in 1953. Union College was not only the agent of Marion's education, but it served as the place for his introduction to the love of his life -- Marie Stalford. It took several years to interest her in marriage, but he finally won out. Marion and Marie were married in Binghampton, New York, on August 3, 1952. After graduation, there were several years of training in various places. By the late 1950's he was eager to start his own practice. Through God's providence he and the family settled in Willow Springs and, eventually, Mountain View. He and his wife purchased a large house and began to serve the people of the region from the clinic they established in their home. He was also instrumental in the success of St. Francis Hospital, where he practiced for approximately 40 years. Marion's family life was rich with a loving wife and 6 children. The family was raised in Mountain View and each member grew to have great fondness for the community. His love of family was only superseded by his love of Jesus, whom he met and accepted in his heart at a tent revival in 1944. Dr. Walton is survived by his three daughters, Katherine Walton of Lowell, Massachusetts, Joan Chapman and her husband David of Richardson, Texas, and Sarah Stillion and her husband Martin of Edmonds, Washington. He was preceded in death by his beloved Marie, and his three sons Christopher, Thomas, and David. He also has five surviving siblings and five grandchildren. Dr. Walton was a very special person that will always be remembered and certainly missed. He loved people and saw his service as a calling. It was a joy for him to work and serve among those in need. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the House of Abigail in Mountain View, MO. Interment Howell Memorial Park Cemetery. |

Let love pervade my spirit to such an extent that others can see that God is in my heart and then may they worship you also. Give me wisdom that I may know the way you’d have me go. Help me to have patience when things are going wrong. Remind me that there is a time for all things, even sorrow and trouble. May I always do the kind thing even though those around me are surrendering to hate, prejudice, or revenge. Let me overcome evil with good. Strengthen my hope that it may become faith, steadfast and sure, that you are my personal friend, rejoicing in my happiness and comforting me in sorrow. Never leaving me lonely, you are only as far away as my lips that pray and my heart that worships you. Amen. Elliott will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. |

VICTOR E. WEAVER, SR. 'VIC' 05 Jan. 1925 - 21 Aug. 1979 |
Victor E. Weaver was born January 5, 1925 at Winona to Oscar Edman ‘Ott’ WEAVER and Mary Drucilla MATTHEWS. He went to school in Winona and graduated in 1942. He then attended Central Methodist College until he went into the army. He served in the army from 1943 to 1945 under General Patton, in England, France and Germany. He was awarded a good conduct medal and four bronze stars. He continued to be in contact with people he met in the army, and loved to attend his army reunions (The 8 Balls) whenever they were held close enough for him to go. He first met his wife Naomi (ALCORN) in 1936, when they both lived in Winona as children. They met again in December 1946 when he returned from his military duty. They were married on March 23, 1947. They have two sons, Victor E. and Dennis J. WEAVER. He had four grandchildren who he loved very much: Mary, Nicholas, Rochelle and Matthew. Vic was a man who liked to help his community, and not just sit back and let others try. Community work and organizations he was involved in were: Little League, Chamber of Commerce, V.F.W. Post #2191, I00F, Selective Service Board, Winona Health Board, 18 years Winona School Board, Mayor 1971-1972, and Democratic Committeeman for many years. He was an Honorary Colonel at Governor Blair’s inauguration. It was there that he became acquainted with Stan Musial, and he enjoyed the association so much, because of his love of baseball. His other great loves were hunting and fishing, and he spent as much time as he could at his cabin on the Current River. He once built a muzzle loader rifle, and he seldom hunted with anything else. He went into the Weaver Lumber Company business with his father after the war. After his father’s death in 1958 he and Naomi took over the management and worked together in the business, until the past few months. Vic suffered two severe heart attacks in July and August of 1973, which forced partial retirement. He died August 21, 1979 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Poplar Bluff. God had called him home. Vic loved all people, and took the time to talk to them and enjoy their companionship. During his six year illness, he would shake hands with a child, with a quarter in his hand, give it to the child and ask him to drink a soda or eat an ice cream cone for him, since these things were not on his diet. Services were held Friday, August 24 at 1:00 pm in the Winona Christian Church, with burial in Pine Lawn Cemetery. |

FREDA KOOGLER WILKINS 04 Mar 1927 - 18 Feb 2010 |
Freda Lucille Koogler was the daughter of Frank and Rosa May (Craft) Koogler. Freda was born March 4, 1927 at West Eminence, MO. She left this world February 18, 2010 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, MO, making her age 82 years, 11 months, and 14 days. Freda was the youngest of seven children. Her mother died when she was only three weeks old. Freda was reared to the age of three by Annie (Ma) Shedd. After leaving Ma Shedd’s, she lived with her dad, four sisters and two brothers. Grand Pa Shedd would occasionally ride a mule from West Eminence to Mill Creek just to go see his little Freda. In 1943 during WWII, she traveled to St. Louis, MO in search of work. At the age of 16, she lied about her age so she could go to work in a defense plant. On returning home to Eminence, she lived with her sister, Opal, and worked in Lauren George’s restaurant in Eminence. Freda was united in marriage to William Glen Wilkins on March 1, 1947. They were blessed with five children, 1 foster child, 9 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. They shared their lives for 57 years. Much of their early married life was spent living in logging camps throughout Colorado and Wyoming. In 1954, while living in Laramie, WY, Freda accepted the Lord as her savior. She and Glen both were baptized in the North Platte River near Laramie, WY with ice still floating down from the spring thaw. In 1961, they returned to Summersville, MO and joined the First Baptist Church. Freda worked for Angelica Uniform Corporation in Eminence as a sewing machine operator for many years. After leaving the factory, she opened her own restaurant in Summersville called 'Freda’s', then she and her daughter, Nedria, owned and operated Scenic Rivers Dinner House in Summersville. She also worked for the Senior Citizen Center and Danny Staples as a cook at Harvey’s near Alley Springs. Freda loved to cook, but even more than that, she loved meeting, greeting and serving people. Freda loved it when her family and friends would drop by for a visit. Freda felt like she had to feed the world, so the first thing she would always ask her visitor is 'Have you eaten'? Freda served her community through her church and by being a member of the Ladies V.F.W. Auxiliary. She loved doing crafts, making quilts and keeping her grandchildren. Freda lived out her life serving her church, her family, and her community. Freda was preceded in death by her husband, Glen; parents, Frank and Rosa May Koogler; two brothers, Raymond of St. Louis, MO and Marvin of Salem, MO; four sisters: Ruth Laxton of Springfield, MO; Opal Young Osburn of Eminence, MO; Geneva Crisco of Colorado Springs, CO; Lola Bounds Potter of West Eminence, MO; son-in-law, Bill House of Summersville, MO; and great-grandson, Jacob Whitten of Georgia. She is survived by her children: Nedria and her husband, Ralph Plowman, of Summersville, MO; Glenda Wilkins, of Ozark, MO; LaDonna and her husband, Terry Hartman, of Summersville, MO; Dwane and his wife, Karen Rose, of Ridgeland, SC; Tony Garrison and his wife, Lynn, of Jefferson City, MO; Johanna and her husband, Robbie Lootens, of Taos, MO; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild on the way, many nieces and nephews and numerous friends. She was and is loved by all and will be missed by all. Rejoice in the assurance and knowledge that Freda is now walking with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and holding hands with her beloved Glen. Services were held Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Bradford Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Tommy Boyd and Rev. Steve Steelman officiating. Interment was in Summersville City Cemetery under the care of Bradford Funeral Home.Notes from Michelle Osborne Shedd, wife of Sherman Shedd: 'Freda Wilkins' mother died when she was a tiny baby. Sherman's grandmother Pearl became her wet nurse. Pearl was a new mother to Sidney Shedd, who would become my father-in- law. Having no other siblings, he always referred to Freda as his 'milk sister'. I think his grandmother, Annie 'Ma' Shedd also helped with Freda's care, but she couldn't meet the 'nutritional demands'. (That was before Playtex nursers). We have pictures of Sidney and Freda playing together as children. He loved her a lot, and so did we!' ~ From The Current Wave |
