BLANCHE HARROD GOSNELL - Daughter of George Washington HARROD and Martha Ann GREER, was born January 21, 1891 at Greer in Oregon Co MO, and passed away suddenly with a heart attack at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 1972, at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 8 days. She was married to Jesse GOSNELL on April 11, 1909, and to this union three sons were born: Ray and Arthur, of Birch Tree MO; and Tom, of Silverton OR. Her husband Jesse passed away on July 6, 1969. Blanche was a very devoted wife and mother and a good neighbor; a very helpful person in sickness, always ready to assist at any time she was needed. She was a very Special Person and a friend to everyone. She prayed through to old time salvation in 1931, and later became a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and remained a faithful member through the years. She loved being a member of the Body of Christ. She gave without question, in any cause that would help the work of the Lord to go forward, in helping get the message of salvation to all nations. She will be sadly missed by her three sons and their wives, 8 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Joe HARROD of Vale OR; and Lyle HARROD, of Astoria OR; 3 sisters, Lydia MITCHELL and Edith SMOTHERMAN, of Birch Tree MO, and Esther BARKLEY, of Winona MO; and also many relatives and friends. JESSE S. GOSNELL - Son of George and Evelyn GOSNELL, was born November 4, 1890 in Oregon County near Alton, and passed away at his home in Birch Tree at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, July 6, 1969, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 2 days. He was united in marriage to Blanche HARROD April 11, 1909. To this union three sons were born: Ray and Arthur of Birch Tree MO and Tom of Silverton OR. Jesse moved with his family to the Banner community in 1925 on his farm; spent a few years after 1936 in Wyoming and Colorado working in the timber and then returned to the farm in Shannon County and remained there until his retirement in 1959; he then moved to Birch Tree. In his earlier years he was a person you could depend on in sickness. He had different remedies and ideas to make you more comfortable. He has helped make many caskets and prepare bodies for burial. In visits to his home he always loaded people down with vegetables and fruit; he just didn’t let them get away without something. He picked many gallons of berries to give to people. He thought lots of his family, and was always ready to assist them any way he could. In 1932 he received the experience of salvation and lived a dedicated life for a few years but wandered away from the Lord. Although some of his bad habits he never took up again; he was a firm believer in people living up to their profession. In November of 1968 he suffered a stroke and had been disabled since that time. His reply to the all important question, “Have you gotten saved during your illness?” was “Yes.” He had changed so much from the beginning of his illness and the last few months he wasn’t aware of things about him, but he remained very peaceable. He will be sadly missed by his wife, his three sons and their wives, eight grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren; three brothers: Bert of Tulsa OK; Dow of Wellington CO; and Mart of Dexter MO; one sister, Mrs. Mae DAVIS of Alton MO; and all the relatives and friends. ROBERT DWAYNE GOSNELL 'BOB' 23 Apr 1948 - 3 Nov 2013 |
A Celebration of Life for Robert Gosnell will be held Saturday November 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Pomona Christian Church, under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Just before the dawning of a new day, Robert Dwane Gosnell heard the words, “Well done my good and faithful servant.” On Sunday, November 3, 2013 he moved to Heaven to join his Lord and Savior. He was greeted by his beloved parents and other family and friends who went before him. Bob was born on the family dairy farm, April 23, 1948, to his parents Ray and Juanita Gosnell of Birch Tree, Missouri. It was this dairy farm where Bob learned the values of faith, family, hard work and living off the land. He applied these principles in his daily life and shared them throughout his 30 years of service as a UPS delivery driver. He was a graduate of Birch Tree High School, Class of 1966. He served in the Vietnam War conflict, receiving the Bronze Star Medal during combat. After the war, he returned to the family farm and continued his passion for automotive repair and restoration. Always known for having multiple projects going at once, he spent many hours in his automotive hobby shop. His last two projects were restoring a 1957 Chevy Pickup for his eldest grandson, and a 1966 Chevy Pickup for his younger grandson. He had many natural gifts and talents, and was known by many people throughout the area, as an automotive mentor and a “Chevy” man. He began each day reading his Bible and offering prayer for his family, friends, country and anyone else in need. He had a humble spirit and lived by the verse “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it” Proverbs 22:6. He was known as never wanting to pass up an opportunity to share God’s love, and frequently picked up hitchhikers along the road in order to offer that blessing and have the opportunity to share his faith in the Lord with others. He is survived by his loving wife Cheryl of 43 years; two daughters, Tobie Self and husband Aaron of Keller, Texas and Tessa Sater and husband Chris of Eureka, Missouri; two grandsons, Logan and Blake Self; two brothers and one sister, Kenneth Gosnell and wife Carmen of High Ridge, Missouri, Donald Gosnell and wife Stella Marie of Millington, Tennessee, and Carol Benzen and Thomas of Pocahontas, Arkansas; along with many other cherished nieces and nephews; and never to be forgotten, his beloved dog, Gracie. Bob was a member of the Pomona Christian Church, always willing to lend a helping hand and serve the Lord with gladness. He faithfully supported many charities and organizations, those dearest to his heart were: Ozark Food Harvest (http://ozarksfoodharvest.org/), Spirit FM Radio (http://spiritfm.com/), American Family Association (http://www.afa.net/), RAFFA House (http://raffahouse.org/), Pomona Christian Church Building Fund, Youth Group, and Orphan Care Ministry (http://www.pomonachristian.com/), and the Oak Grove Cemetery in Birch Tree, Missouri. One of his many missions in life was giving to others before taking anything for himself. He personally requested donations be made to any of these charities in lieu of flowers. Memorial contributions may be left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. A brief visitation will precede the Celebration at 9:00 a.m. at Pomona Christian Church. Interment will be at a later date in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Birch Tree, Missouri. Bob will be forever missed and live in our hearts each and every day, through his foundation of faith in the Lord he so carefully has laid before us. |

EDWARD G. GRANDSTAFF – Died Nov 15, 1932. Edward Garfield GRANDSTAFF was struck by an automobile and instantly killed on State Highway 10, about a half mile west of Perry KS, Tuesday morning. GRANDSTAFF had started from home on the TRANT farm, at about 8 o'clock, and was walking along the highway, and a car driven by W. E. ELLIS, traveling in the same direction, struck him, GRANDSTAFF's body was hurled to the pavement. At the time a snow storm was raging and it is thought GRANDSTAFF had his ears muffled and did not hear the approaching car. After striking GRANDSTAFF, ELLIS stopped his car and hailed other cars to have them notify doctors and officers. He assisted in every way possible and stayed in Perry until he was exonerated by the coroner. ELLIS's version of the accident was that he saw GRANDSTAFF walking east and at about the center of the concrete slab. He appeared to have his hands in his pockets. Ellis blew his horn first and then blew a whistle attached to the exhaust pipe. GRANDSTAFF continued walking and in an instant before the car reached him GRANDSTAFF turned his head to look at the car and at the same time apparently stepped in front of it. There were no witnesses. The body was taken to KUHL's store and Sheriff AULL notified. Upon arriving here the coroner was called. He found that the accident was unavoidable and Ellis exonerated. GRANDSTAFF 's neck and both legs were broken. The remains were taken to PEEBLERS undertaking parlor in Topeka. Mr. ELLIS is connected with the Mead Investment Company of Topeka and a brother-in-law of Governor PAULEN. He carried casualty insurance and a representative of that company was here during the investigation. Edward G.
