AUTO TRAGEDY – -Small Boy Killed As Result of an Auto Accident- Last Saturday night, near midnight, Arvel NORRIS, the 9 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Odus NORRIS, was killed in an automobile accident at the Winona Drive-In Theater, about 3 miles west of Winona on Highway 60. The boy was in the pickup belonging to his stepfather, Leonard HONEYCUTT, with other members of the family, and the driver was just beginning to move the vehicle to leave the enclosure, the show having just ended. A 1955 Mercury driven by Bill HUNT, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. HUNT, of Eminence, crashed into the fence and in falling, the post crashed through the window of the HONEYCUTT pickup, striking the boy on the head and fatally injuring him. The HUNT car also struck the rear of Maurice BROWN’s 1955 station wagon and damaged same considerably. An inquest was conducted in Eminence on Tuesday morning by Dr. R. F. WILSON, County Coroner. The verdict of the jury was culpable negligence, and Bill HUNT was held to Circuit Court on a charge of manslaughter. Sources for this information: THE CURRENT WAVE – March 14, 1957.
