Gentry "Ray" Thomas was born on Sept. 3, 1931, to Shade Thomas and Lola (Williams) Thomas in the Blairs Creek Community of Shannon County. He departed his life to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Feb. 11, 2008, at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 8 days at his home in Eminence, Mo. Ray married Thelma Shelton on March 27, 1950, in St. Louis, Mo., and to this union, four children were born. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Shade Thomas and Lola Thomas Metzler; a son, Jay Thomas; one sister, Thelma O'Dell; and three brothers, Irby Lester (infant), Ira Thomas and Harold Thomas. Those left behind to mourn his passing are Thelma Thomas, his wife of Eminence, Mo.; one brother, Raymond Thomas of High Ridge, Mo.; two sons, Dale Thomas of Eminence, Mo., and Bruce Thomas and wife Tammy of Eminence, Mo.; one daughter, Pam Johnston and husband Frank of Eminence, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Holly Harridge and husband Ben of Ozark, Mo., Jessica Niemeier and husband Fred of Chicago, Ill., Michael Thomas of Eminence, Mo., Josh Johnston of Winter Haven, Fla., Stephen Thomas and wife Brenna of Eminence, Mo., Rachael Wisenbaler of Aztec, N.M., and Kala and Kenney Thomas of Eminence, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Chayse Hollis of Winona, Mo., and Kianna Warren of Eminence, Mo., and a host of nieces and nephews. Ray loved the outdoors and liked to hunt, fish and camp. He also enjoyed visiting with his family and his many friends. During his lifetime, he worked at many different jobs. The first job after he married was with the Bales Boating Co. and his last job was with the Cross Country Trail Ride. Ray attended the First Assembly of God Church in Eminence, Mo. He gave his heart and life to the Lord many years ago and continued to serve him until the day he left this world. Ray will be missed by his family, his church family and his many friends and neighbors. Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Eminence, Mo., with Pastor James Snow officiating. Interment was in Bethany Chapel Cemetery in Eminence, Mo., under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home of Eminence, Mo.
