JERRY LEWIS HOLLIS, SR. - Born October 24, 1924, in Fremont, Mo. and passed away Monday, April 5, 2004 at his home in Winona. Upon his discharge from the United States Navy in 1946, he began a 30-year career with the Federal Government as an experimental Machinist at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. He was a resident of Vienna, Va., until his retirement in 1980, at which time he and his wife Marjorie returned to Missouri, settling in Winona. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Anne Gates, of Bloxom, Va..; tow sons, Jerry L. Hollis, Jr., of Vienna, Va. and Paul S. Hollis, of Burleson, Tex.; tow sisters, Lucy Lindsey and Frances Thompson; one brother, Tom Hollis; five grandchildren, Tanni Wiersema, Michael Gates, Kristi Murphy, Zachary Hollis and Jacob Hollis; four great-grandchildren, Bryant Wiersema, Logan Wiersema, Sean Murphy and Kevin Murphy. He was a devoted husband to his wife Marjorie of 54 years, who preceded him in death. Jerry will always be remembered for his love and devotion to his family, who will miss him beyond measure. A celebration of his life was held Thursday, April 8 at Duncan Funeral Home in Winona, with Darrell Jones officiating. Interment was held in Pleasant Site Cemetery, under the direction of Duncan Funeral Home of Winona.
