SEBERRY NASH DEWEESE - Mrs. J. N. DeWeese, one of the oldest citizens of Shannon County, passed away Oct. 5, 1936 at age 88 years, 10 months and 4 days. Seberry DeWeese was born in the state of Illinois Dec. 1, 1847. At the age of six she came to Shannon County with her parents and here she lived most of the time for the remainder of her life. In 1862 she was married to Noah Nash and to this union two children, a son and a daughter were born, both of whom preceded her in death. The daughter died in infancy, and the son, G. W. Nash of Eminence, passed away in August last year. Her husband was killed during the Civil War. In 1871 she was united in marriage to Jasper Newton DeWeese, who preceded her in death 29 years ago. Two daughters, Anna and Otilla, preceded their mother in death. Anna died in infancy and Otilla (Mrs. T. F. Hicks) passed away in July, 1930. The surviving children are Henry of Eminence, Charley of Low Wassie, Bill of Knoxville TN, Netter of Roy NM, Mrs. Dela Holland of Mesquero NM, Mrs. Dora Williamson of Russell KS, and Mrs. Deliah Henderson of Hominy OK. She is survived by 30 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. Death was due to the generous infirmities of age; she was confined to her bed for several months. Many years ago she professed a hope in Christ and joined the Methodist Church, and remained a member until her death. Interment was in Munsell Cemetery, services conducted by Rev. J. H. Sconce of Eminence. 'I am the resurrection and the life. He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.'
