Shannon
County was organized January 29, 1841 from Ripley and Washington Counties. The
county is named for
George Shannon
of the Lewis and Clark expedition. The County seat is at Eminence Mo. It has the
Current River and Jacks Fork both running through it. Also home of some of
Missouri's prettiest springs - Alley Springs and Round Springs. And, there is
Peck Ranch and Rocky Falls. A lot of natural beauty abounds in the area. These
areas are big tourists attractions - a lot of camping, canoeing, float trips,
hiking, trail rides, etc.

- Carol Chrisco, who was instrumental in raising the money for and the completion of the Shannon County Veterans Memorial on the Courthouse lawn, is in the process of rasing money to add wings to the monument that will be inscribed with the names of Shannon County veterans. Chrisco said that she has already raised $1200 but needs another $3800 for the addition, which will include approximately 1400 names. She added that all Shannon County veterans are eligible, whether they served during war time or not. Everyone is invited to an informational meeting on the project that will be held Thursday Aug 21 starting at 7 PM at the Dry Bean Saloon in Eminence. Donations can be mailed to Veteran's Fund, c/o Carol Chrisco, PO Box 547, Eminence, MO. Call (573) 226-5410 for more information. (Current Wave Photo by R. Dillon) |
