Happy New Year!

Shannon County was organized January 29, 1841 from Ripley and Washington Counties. The county is named for George Shannon of the Lewis and Clark expedition. The County seat is at Eminence Mo. It has the Current River and Jacks Fork both running through it. Also home of some of Missouri's prettiest springs - Alley Spring, Round Spring and several others. And, there is Peck Ranch and Rocky Falls. A lot of natural beauty abounds in the area. These areas are big tourists attractions - a lot of camping, canoeing, float trips, hiking, trail rides, etc.

The courthouse burned during the Civil War in 1863, again in 1871, and 1938; recorders office burned in 1893. Records are  available for the following: Recorder to deeds: Index to deeds, 1859-1887 Deed records, 1871-1892 Marriage records and index, 1881-1921; Clerk of Circuit court: Index to circuit court records - No dates; Circuit Court records, 1872-1915 Index to tax suits, 1880-1932 Clerk of Probate Court: Index to Probate Records, 1869-1911; Probate Records, 1880-1904; Administrators/executors docket, 1875-1896; Inventories appraisements and sale bills, 1876-1899 Settlement records, 1876-1891; Will records, 1907-1918. Some land records prior to 1872 may be in Ironton, Missouri.
